  • Ryonosuke Fukui is one of the leading figures in the postwar Japanese art scene, renowned for his intricate mimeograph works and oil paintings. This book focuses on two key periods. The first is the time when Fukui was represented by The Nihonbashi Gallery, where Toshio Kojima, now president of Gallery Kojima, was the staff member responsible for the artist. The second is the period that followed, when Fukui became widely known for his paintings of Maiko dancers. The book offers a rare insight into the artist’s wartime experiences and his unique perspective on the world.

It features artworks from our collection: 16 mimeographs, 20 mimeograph trials, 13 mimeograph designs, 29 oil paintings, 5 miniatures, 8 gouache paintings, and 3 watercolor paintings.

"Amidst Unrest," a text by Tuneo Sumita (curator at the Takasaki Museum of Art), explores the imagined thought process behind the works. The foreword by Toshio Kojima reflects on his personal relationship with the artist and Fukui's rise to international recognition through his collaboration with gallerists.

The book is bilingual, in both Japanese and English.
