織田廣喜はたくさんの赤い帽子を被った少女の作品を制作し、世の中では通俗作家として捉えられていますが、
1955年頃から67年頃にかけては国内やフランスの風景や特異な女性像を発表し高い評価を得ました。
最愛の夫人の病気介護をきっかけに画風が変貌しますが、
それ以前のまさに天凛と評して良いような、夢と憧憬に溢れる作品は現在でも高い評価を得ています。
本展では作家の創作活動の最も充実した時期の作品を中心に油彩および水彩の秀作を約40点、展示いたします。

今回の展覧会図録を兼ねた小冊子を刊行いたしました。ご期待下さい。
また8日（土）の15時から橘さつきさんと兒嶋の織田先生を偲ぶトークイベントとささやかなワインパーティーを開催します。
橘さつきさんは伝説の額装ヴィヨン 岡村和男さんのお嬢さんです。
岡村さんは織田先生のコレクターでもあり、若き織田廣喜を支えた存在でもありました。
そんなご縁でさつきさんは織田家の次男きじおさんの家庭教師を務めたり織田家とは家族ぐるみのお付き合いをされた方です。
どんな、お話が飛び出すのか楽しみです。ぜひご参加ください。

While gaining fame for his paintings of girls wearing red hats, which established his reputation as a popular mainstream artist, Oda experienced his most fruitful period between 1955 and 1967, producing evocative landscapes of Japan and France, as well as portraits of distinctive women. A turning point came when he began caring for his ailing wife, which brought about a dramatic shift in his artistic style. Despite this transformation, his earlier works—filled with dreams and longing—continue to be celebrated today as testaments to his natural artistic brilliance.
The exhibition will feature approximately 40 outstanding works in oil and watercolor, focusing on pieces created during the artist’s most prolific period. We have also publsihed a small book based on our collection of the artist works coincinding with the exhibition. The book is in English. If you are interested, please feel free to contact us.
We will also be holding a talk event and a small wine party on Saturday the 8th from 3:00 p.m., a gathering to remember Hiroki Oda, with a special guest, Satsuki Tachibana, in conversation with Toshio Kojima (Gallery Kojima). Satsuki Tachibana is the daughter of the legendary framer Villon Kazuo Okamura. Okamura was not only a collector of Oda’s works but also a key supporter of the young Hiroki Oda in his early days. Through that connection, Tachibana became the private tutor of Oda’s second son, Kijio, and maintained a close relationship with the Oda family over the years. We look forward to hearing what fascinating stories she will share. (The event will be held in Japanese)

【織田廣喜】
1914年、福岡県生まれ。仕事をしながら苦学して画家となり、同じく画家の妻リラ(1927-1998)の支えで絵筆一筋の人生を邁進した。
1950年に二科会会員、1980年に二科会常務理事、1995年には日本芸術院会員になるなど、2012年に亡くなるまで意欲的な創作活動を続ける一方、
1985年に愛妻リラがくも膜下出血で倒れ寝たきりとなったが、亡くなるまで介護し、同時に創作活動を続けた。
1914年 – 福岡県千手村（現嘉麻市）に生まれる。
1939年 – 日本美術学校西洋画科卒業。
1940年 – 二科展に初入選する。
1950年 – 二科会会員に推挙される。
1960年 – 初渡仏。
1968年 – 第53回二科展で総理大臣賞受賞。
1971年 – 第56回二科展で東郷青児賞受賞。パリで初の個展開催。
1992年 – 勲四等瑞宝章受章。
1995年 – 日本芸術院賞・恩賜賞受賞。日本芸術院会員になる。
1996年 – 碓井町立織田広喜美術館開館。
2003年 – 勲三等瑞宝章、フランス芸術文化勲章シュヴァリエを受章。
2006年 – 二科会理事長。
2012年5月30日 – 98歳没。没後、従四位に追叙された。

Hiroki Oda painted unidentified European streets and ethnic women long before he went to France in 1960.
He continued to paint those sceneries and figures during and after his multiple visits to Europe. Instead of
depicting things as they are, the distorted representations in his works are rooted in imagination, and
longings for unvisited streets and unencountered persons. Hiroki Oda once said that one of the most essential
elements in his work is “crafting lies with imagination”. His works pay an ode to Paris and female figures
dreamed for but never encountered.
After his wife got sick in 1983, Hiroki Oda decided to take care of his wife by himself rather than relying on
caretakers, while continuing his painting. Therefore, the works of Oda before 1983 are particularly valuable
and highly recognized by the arts collectors (those works compose of the majority of our collection). Further, it
is reasonable to expect that once the works of Oda are widely circulated outside of Japan, their great values
would be soon uncovered by people all around the world.
His works are held in the collection of museums including The National Museum of Modern Art Tokyo, and
the following museums are especially dedicated to works of Oda and hold permanent exhibitions.
